Demian by Hermann Hesse

An intense, if short, read, a masterfully envisioned story of growth, conscience, doubt and human -centered blasphemy. A brilliant collection of half dreams and half realities, mixed up with the inquietude of the rites of passage connected with the stages of proto-adult life, which includes clever disquisitions on the discovery of sexuality... depicted in ways well ahead of the publication date. The plot manages to be extremely personal, almost unique, and universal at the same time. I will be thinking about the ending for very, very long.
