I can't, in good conscience, keep rating these books at three stars when they're so easy to get through.
When I say "easy," I don't mean they're uncomplicated and dumbed down. I mean they're fun, they're funny, and I enjoy reading on to see what happens next. When I finished this one, I found myself wishing I'd thought to get number four out from the library at the same time, so I could just flip that one open and keep reading Stephanie Plum's exploits.
I'm enjoying seeing Stephanie's development throughout the series, and how she learns from her mistakes to make whole new ones. I liked the instroduction of Lula as a reminder of Stephanie's past mistakes, and that a lot of the things Stephanie says to Lula echo things someone would've told her in the first book, had she been shadowing someone more competent for training rather than jumping right into the bounty hunter business.
I could do without some of the physical comedy aspects of the book (Stephanie's hair turning orange, tackling a guy in a chicken suit, Lula's intestinal distress), but I suppose they wouldn't be Stephanie Plum without hilarity ensuing, and Stephanie's freaking out about these disasters is all the funnier for everyone else's taking it in stride. It makes it only too clear that people expect odd things to happen when Stephanie Plum is around, and the only person surprised is her.
