Memorial Drive: A Daughter's Memoir by Natasha Trethewey
5.0
I've been anxiously waiting to read this memoir since its release. After reading it, this book left me speechless and destroyed. I literally needed to just sit with what I read. I don’t even know if this is a “reviewable” book but I will try.
This story is told by Natasha who comes back home decades after her mother is murdered by her ex-husband and Natasha’s stepfather. She talks about growing up biracial in the 1960s, her relationship with her mother, biological father and stepfather.
It is a emotionally gripping story of loss, abuse and trauma and what happens at the intersection of it all. The amount of emotion woven into the writing is so palpable that I felt like I was in the room during certain sections of the book. I highly recommend this book!
