and suddenly i get Johns...in that moment Hal ruminates on Kyle's artsy fidgeting, his inability to ever feel satisfied with his work...while Hal does just what he needs to get the job done...Johns identifies with Hal, seeing himself as a functional workman with a clear vision and the tools to see it through! i will be reading this run...
also while i kinda find it a copout to retcon the Parallax thing, i also admire the thematic idea behind that and Hal's general return...as Batman says, "this universe could use more light"...it's all part of the Ultimate Age's complex relationship with its predecessor, attempting to bring back some of the magic of the Silver/Bronze Age without erasing accountability to the past entirely...it's an inspired idea and watching the pathos of these comics slowly shift over a few years is a real joy
