Secrets of the Chocolate House

adventurous
sad
Strong character development:
Complicated
Oh, this hurts. I was so excited to jump into this one after the first book, mainly so the story with Samuel could be resolved. Unfortunately, despite purportedly being the premise around which the sequel revolves, he is basically nonexistent as a character. If you are looking for any hint of the romance from the first story, this is not the book for you.
There are a lot of new time travel elements introduced, and a new villain, as well as an interesting new mentor character. The latter is the strongest, but unfortunately she doesn't think it's the time to tell her history.
I hate to write negative reviews. I just feel so disappointed, and since so many reviews seem to be from people who didn't read the first book, it feels important to contrast the two for others looking for a continuation of the first story.
