Batter Royale by Leisl Adams

Representation: Black main character

6/10, I wanted to read this for a while and then I saw one of the two libraries I go to get this book so I had high expectations for this considering I've never read from this author before but unfortunately this was not the book for me, I found so many issues with this making me not want to read this again so where do I even begin? The plot is slow but also disjointed and sometimes too many events are happening at once so it just doesn't make any sense at all. The main characters Rose and Fred and the other minor ones don't have any depth to them either. Maybe I'm not that interested in baking or cooking food in general which is why I didn't enjoy this novel however people who like cooking might like this book since they might connect to it. Also why is one character sick but he is still in the baking competition and won't he spread his infection? I am confused as to why this happened and it makes me think that this show doesn't take any safety precautions. What a shame, I wished this was better than it was when I read it. Go read anything other than this like Tin Man or The Tryout and I won't read from this author again, oh wait my library only has one of her works.
