The premise is cool. The execution across the trilogy just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t get invested in any of the characters or their respective struggles. Painfully heteronormative at times (*gasp* “even a few men” found Acheron attractive?!? Despite the events of Acheron the novel, this is so abnormal it needs to be noted. Apparently) and I found it odd how big a deal was made of swearing. The unlikeliest of characters (yes, on multiple occasions this was deployed) blushed after hearing a particularly inventive swear. Really? It just read like US cultural bleed rather than fitting the characters or the setting. Overall, all three instalments were fast, easy reads requiring not much attention to track what’s going on.
