Doll Bones by Holly Black

4.0

Creepy dolls are creepy.
Zach is torn between pleasing his dad and his basketball friends and continuing to meet with his friends Poppy and Alice after school for their elaborate stories, played with action figures and dolls. When Zach quits, Poppy brings out the Queen, an antique doll prized by her mother, but mysterious and creepy. The Queen has a history that sends them on a quest to make things right.
I enjoyed seeing this story from Zach's perspective. Since it is Poppy who has the dreams and claims the evidence of the doll/ghost connections, it is all the more suspenseful to have the doubt. The quest and the mystery unfolded nicely, though I would have appreciated a bit more resolution of the dead girl's story.
