Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan

took me a while to write this review, as I usually blurt my opinion out immediately after finishing a book. However, I felt this book and the message it delivers needed some real thought.

I went in knowing this was a difficult book to read when it comes to its trigger warnings, so please be prepared and look them up before reading. That being said, it was a beautifully written and I felt a lot of research and time went into putting shared real life experiences into words.

Whilst there is romance in this book, I decided not to rate this due to the trigger warnings on domestic and sexual abuse.

Kennedy did an amazing job at writing and bringing to life the heart breaking realities of domestic abuse. Whilst some might not appreciate the rawness of the story, it does not fail in delivering an important message and raising awareness - I am not even sure a review could do this book justice.

Iris and August, our MC’s had a really long journey and I think that is what this book was about, the journey and where you end up. Iris was such a strong, determined and resilient character even through the hardest of times. August, our MC, may have just been too perfect, with his sweet and honest demeanour. It was odd not seeing our MC’s have a lot of time together, but with this story, it works!

The only slight downfall was at around 75% mark where we saw Iris and August finally reunited, I felt like a lot of scenes were skipped. Especially as there was minimal interactions between the two, in the first 2/3 of the story. I would have loved to have seen more and how their relationship grew.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and would encourage others to do so, with an open mind and being prepared for the content.
