City of Miracles by Robert Jackson Bennett
5.0
Last book in the series. The whole book was a roller-coaster ride.
Book 3 follows Sigrud, Ashara's former associate and friend, as he makes his way out of a self-imposed exile after he learns of Ashara's assassination.
Being one of the government's (former) most brutal spies, it doesn't take him long to find the guilty party, but things start spiraling when it we find out who the assassin was working for.
There are big themes in this about anger and pain and costs they take on us and about coming to terms with loss and making peace with yourself and your past.
This was an excellent series, and it touches on some big issues in a way that feels authentic and heartfelt.
