Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
5.0

[5 stars]

This is probably my fifth time rereading this book and I can’t believe I’ve never written a review. Previously I didn’t consider rereads to count toward my goal, but I read a whole book!

Anyways, I immediately reread this after finishing “Any Way The Wind Blows,” the third and final book in the Simon Snow Trilogy. I thought I would read “Carry On” to get myself out of this Simon Snow slump I’ve got going on, but it seems I’ve only made it worse.

I cannot stop thinking about these characters. I thought this series would simply be a fun enemies-to-lovers, they were roommates, with some fantasy mixed in there. Instead I got such a complex story about corruption, manipulation, trauma, and intimacy. And now I can’t bring myself to do anything but think about Simon, Baz, Penny, Agatha, and all the others.

So if you’re reading reviews contemplating whether or not should read this book, please, I beg you, yes. I mean the romance is enough, but it has short chapters, always keeping your attention through every little twist and turn. The characters are so dynamic and real, you can’t help but feel for them. And you get to see these wonderful characters grow and develop through three books. When I first read this book I thought it would be the only one, and it worked as a standalone… but there was more story to be told.

Besides all that, there’s gay people, vampires, swearing, magic, and great humor. What else could you want?

I love this book with my whole heart. I’ve gotten friends this book as gift so they’d read it and be able to talk about it with me. These little gay wizard boys mean everything to me.

Happy reading!
