Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent

5.0

I don't know what it is about these standalone titles within the Crowns of Nyaxia series that is just working for me, but I am intensely loving them!

Slaying the Vampire Conqueror had a really straightforward premise, but the execution was anything but simple. I really loved how competent our main character Sylina was, and combined with her position it really opened up the Crowns of Nyaxia world even more. I love how the author is going about this with the extra books, because the information isn't just dumped on you through dialog or reflection in the main novels. Instead, we get to be there for a while ourselves, learning through a new set of characters, and this approach has done terrific things for my enjoyment.

And the other thing I have loved in both standalones is the romance aspect. If possible, I found the romance in Slaying the Vampire Conqueror even more perfectly paced than the one in Six Scorched Roses, which is saying a lot considering my adoration for that book. This is fantasy romance like I love to read it, and I am so happy to have found another author who balances yearning and payoff so well.

I hope it goes without saying that I will absolutely be continuing on with the series! I seriously can't wait to find out what Mische's story will bring.
