Bad Men by Julie Mae Cohen

The first chapter or so was very difficult to read and I debated quitting a few times (it involved pedophilia) I hung on and am glad I did because I found the rest of the book gripping, easy to listen to, and I couldn’t put it down. I’m not sure why we needed that much pedophilia and discomfort for the reader. This backstory / explanation could have been done with less cringe.

Towards the very end of the book I had a couple of small complaints like a bad guy confessional but it wasn’t a long winded one. The wrap also felt too rushed compared to the pacing of the book.

Overall if you like Dexter or female vigilantes, this is a good choice. I didn’t think the cover or description captured the story. I didn’t find this to be feminist and most of the story is told from the male perspective not the female. She’s more secondary.

SUMMARY: female MC is a serial killer but she only kills bad men. Her first kill was her pedophile step father at age 12. Next was a pedophile school teacher at age 14.

Now she’s an adult and still doing her thing.

Other MC is a true crime podcaster who recently quit after his wife left him for being a workaholic and he had a near death experience.

The female MC has a crush on the male MC and arranges for them to “accidentally meet”

The two become friendly (and flirty)as they work on a case together.

This book is a bit of everything: romance (with nothing graphic), crime/case investigation, and vigilante taking out the London trash.

Thanks netgalley for my ALC.
