This is another beautiful story by Kim Fielding. The world is a historical fantasy world with countless of hardships and selfish characters ready to put others down. The main character has encountered plenty of abuse and doesn't exactly have a lot of hope for his future. But the story is still so hopeful, full of tendersness and kindness.
Brute is a lovely story and it doesn't fall into wallowing in misery. While there are hardships, things don't constantly go to hell and there are no adversaries that keep popping up and screwing up everything. And there is the beautiful romance between two people who never really thought it possible for themselves.
