"She packed a book, as you never knew when you’d need a book." -Chapter 40

This is the kind of horror you shamelessly consume in print but wouldn't dare admit you entertain between your ears so frequently it could be your profession. The prose reminded me of White Noise By Don Delillo. Makes me wonder when the era of the modern novel will end, not that I want it to (I think?). I found Leave the World Behind to be eerie enough to provoke panic about the state of our haphazard society. The exercise of reading these pages felt like one of those nightmares I've had of disaster I wake from believing it was reality but won't share aloud for fear of jinx or malignant paranoia. Then, when something does go wrong, I use the premonition as fiber to knit together a catastrophe. Oh, deer!
