Seven Faceless Saints by M.K. Lobb

2.0

I wanted to like this. I love the cover and the synopsis had so much potential, however, it’s sooooooo boring. There is lack of character development. You get to know the FMC and MMC but no one else gets much of a personality- certainly not enough to really be invested in their role. The potential to build upon the religion and magic is thrown away. You get a brief description of some skills that a few types of disciples get but it would be so much cooler is you knew the other skills in relation to the saints the disciples are “chosen” by. Zero world building. Hardly any character visuals.

Damian is soft and kind of pathetic. Roz is headstrong but thrives on grudges and a poor attitude. The villain is weak and the plot twist really wasn’t exciting. The ending is incredibly rushed and I skimmed through the last 50 pages because it was so lackluster.

The romance is sad and slow and zero spice. While Roz is bisexual, it did absolutely nothing for the story. At least give me a love triangle- anything to make this murder mystery more interesting.

There a war going on that no one wants to be a part of but everyone is against the opponents being integrated into their society. I don’t even know why we dislike Chaos- why is this saint so bad?

This book lacks depth and breadth and details that make a story worth investing in. Did I hate it? No. Was it a waste of time? Yes. Is the physical book pretty? Totally.
