I enjoyed this read quite a bit. The author has a nice way of signaling to the reader so that you have an idea of what's coming and yet when it comes you're nevertheless surprised.
The scale of the world feels both small and enormous. The fantasy elements were incredibly cool.
My only gripe, which may change as the series goes on, is that I was not particularly fond of one of the POV characters, Elvar. She came across as very 'not like other girls' and her chief, Agnar, whom she idolizes, seemed very cruel in the beginning. He gets his comeuppance in the end, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to feel upset that he was killed or not.... I'm not lol.
I loved Orka and Varg and was way more invested in their stories. And I am interested to find out where Elvar goes from here. Of the three, she had the farthest to grow and I think she may have started down that path.
