Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire Vol. 1 by priest
5.0
I’ve only read this first volume (there will be 5) and I think this story might already be one of my favorite Priest’s novels along with Can Ci Pin, Guardian, and Lord Seventh 😬. This is a good link if you want a plot and character summary https://lhjc.carrd.co/#characters
❤️🔥Mix of modern/urban fantasy and ancient history/mythology
❤️🔥 Enemies to grudging/reluctant allies?
❤️🔥Slow burn with lots trust issues
❤️🔥Beautiful writing- everything is so easy to visualize
We are still learning about Xuan Ji and Shen Lingyuan’s backgrounds by the end of this volume. I’m so intrigued about their past and how it’s shaping their current relationship. There are so many layers being unveiled about XJ and SL! There were a few times I wasn’t 100% understanding everything but like in Guardian, I trusted the author and it did not detract from the story.
Feels like we are in for some dark themes ahead as we find out some events from the past that are quite devastating. I could not put this book down - wish I had ebook version that I could highlight and lookup things but I did take notes 📝
