The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

3.0

my very very healthy addiction with east asian mythology retellings basically had me bound to read this.

the way axie just makes you inhale the setting and the characters with her writing is something that needs to be studied because i was hooked at the start.

but really, i didn't enjoy this as much i thought i would (or as much i should have) because reading through the story - it felt hazy? it confused me how mina could love her family so but is not actually depicted missing them or feeling substantially homesick? it felt like the characters weren't given enough build up around each other as much as i would've liked.

the plot has extreme potential and because of that i still somewhat enjoyed this!
