This was even better than the movie, giving so much additional depth. A bunch of the awkward dialogue was straight up cut and everything added felt almost more natural than the original.
This book legitimately made me cry multiple times. The descriptions of the destruction of the Jedi temple were heartwrenching. When Obi-Wan and Yoda find the bodies of the younglings and the Jedi who tried to protect them to his last breath...my God.
Anakin was greatly delved into. I loved the representation of his fear being a the dragon of a dead star. Anakin's greatest strength, his love, was also his fatal flaw in the end. His fall to the dark side is way more believable. He is so interesting, I wish I could study him in a lab under a microscope.
Obi-Wan, my beloved.
One criticism is that Padme didn't really seem...right? Something felt off whenever it was in her POV.
I loved all the little tidbits about Jedi culture. Lightsaber forms are so cool! I wish there was an entire book about stuff like that. I would read the heck out of it.
Also Yoda saying “To hide the bodies, no point there is" made me laugh an unnecessary amount. Fantastic.
