Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism
by Amanda Montell
i have honestly never been drawn into stories abt cults (or at least groups i considered cults), they just never super sparked my curiosity. i appreciated this as a primer alongside some really carefully-balanced criticism of our social narrative around these groups and where their danger actually stems from. pretty much 0 phenomena in this world come from nowhere, entirely unique, and cults are the same. great perspective thats pretty well supported throughout!
points off that would otherwise have been kept because i think writing a whole book about the power of language and then throwing around the word Sociopath & etc is kinda. interesting. but as much as i looked out for it, i never really found it interfering w/ the text itself. just very jarring.
