Flash Burnout
by L.K. Madigan
Blake is a sophomore, dating Shannon, friends with Marissa, and an avid photographer. He's your typical 15-year old, obsessed with sex, can't wait for 16 so he can drive, and not a fan of high school.
Marissa is not a typical teenage girl. Blake takes a picture of a homeless woman who turns out to be Marissa's meth-addicted mom. That photo sends Marissa in a spiral to find and take care of her mom. Blake gets involved but can't tell anyone what's happening, even Shannon.
When Marissa's mom disappears and a dead woman appears at the morgue, Marissa and Blake fear the worst. The two stumble into a situation that will alter their future in strange and odd ways.
There is a lot of humor in this novel, which balances with the seriousness and severe events that happen. The ending isn't happy or sad and there's two playlists at the end to encourage deeper feeling.
