Misery by Stephen King
5.0
I have watched and loved the Misery film, so I generally knew what was coming - but this book still absolutely TERRIFIED me. The only other time I’ve been so scared is reading The Shining (which I have named my favourite King book so far as a fairly new fan - this is definitely on par), but Misery was even more anxiety-inducing. I had to force myself not to finish this in three days and drag it out because I was enjoying it so much. Truly phenomenal edge-of-your-seat writing!
Annie Wilkes and her strange scary behaviour had me audibly exclaiming many times during this read. I would honestly rather stay in The Overlook than spend any amount of time held hostage by that woman.
