Flamefall by Rosaria Munda

5.0

I thought Flamefall was even better than Fireborne, the first book in the Aurelian Cycle. The world, the plot and the characters all of it grew exponentially.

I love the conflict in this series. The political intrigue in these books is some of the best I have read in a YA series. I can't praise Rosaria Munda enough for the way she addresses the various sociological and economical problems that exists in this society. Adding to that is a range of diverse characters who are extremely complex and likeable.

While Fireborne is told through just Annie and Lee's perspective (the two main characters of the series) Flamefall adds another Pov character, Griff to the narration. I loved Griff from the moment he was introduced. He is such an interesting character with so much baggage but I loved how much he grew throughout the story.

Same for Annie and Lee - they are just precious and needs to be protected at all cost. The relationship between these two is everything. They are each other special person despite their differences and I loved that. Annie, in this book was an epitome of endless patience. And I don't have words for the internal struggle that Lee goes through in this book. But again, both these characters have experienced so much trauma in their lives and Rosaria Munda does such a fantastic job of depicting how that trauma has shaped them and continues to effect their actions and relationships.

Lee and Annie spends such a large chunk of the book doubting each other motives and normally I would hate this but somehow with everything that has happened to them, the miscommunication trope works brilliantly. It frustrated the hell out of me but also made me so invested in their story.

Overall, such a fantastic sequel and let's not even talk about that devastating ending
