turningpages39 's review for:
Gods and Demons
by Deborah Cassrels
informative
slow-paced
Structurally, it jump around a lot so it is almost hard to keep up with dates and places where things happened, and the people in it.
She wrote like a journalist who are on the road, working on several stories at once.
There are also a few random thing thrown in which then never mentioned again, such as her newfound love interest.
A lot of the book was dedicated to the stort about Bali Nine and Islamic Jihadists. So, though she put in other stories like mental health issues, spiritual healers and beliefs, etc, they are overshadowed by the 2 stories.
Overall, it makes Indonesia sounds like a very scary place. I was expecting a more balanced writing.
