Of Monsters and Mazes by Leann Belle
5.0
I admit that even though this is a retelling of the Labyrinth I actually don’t know anything regarding the original. I wasn’t sure if lack of understanding would cause issues while reading but it in fact had the opposite effect. I loved having a sense of total surprise throughout the entirety of the book.
I will admit that the beginning made me very unsure of what direction the story was taking. There are touches of the modern world, but the meshing of modern and fantasy elements kept a near perfect balance. It takes a little bit of time to reach the why of the plot, but the build-up was done well and I never felt like it was incomplete world building even if not everything made sense at that time. The amount of lore that was sprinkled throughout the story was well thought out and was more than I was expecting.
The men? Absolutely unhinged. And I devoured it all up, from start to finish. The trigger list is equal to a grocery list, and I am so here for it. The scenes ranged from spicy to sweet and all the while bushing the boundaries of triggers (in the most delightful way). It felt intimate and full of emotion (more than just lust). It takes a while to warm up to the MMC’s but I guarantee that you’ll end up loving them all.
