Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

4.0

Evvie Drake is about to leave her husband when she finds out he has been killed in a car accident. A year later, she rents the apartment at the back of her home to her best friend Andy's childhood best friend Dean. Dean just happens to be a professional pitcher who has left the game in disgrace since he can no longer pitch. This was a really fun, quick read. The relationship between Evvie and Dean is mostly believable, although you have to overlook the glaring plot problem that a successful, famous, rich MLB pitcher would move into an $800/month apartment in the back of a young widow's house. Holmes comes up with some list of reasons that are supposed to make this work, but come on. I could list out the other problems I had, but really, I read this because I wanted a quick, fun, summer read and it was exactly that. I need to stop before I talk myself into not liking it. It had several moments that made me laugh.
