Seeing her mother like a ghost everywhere, new work opportunities, old homes, memories of her sister & 1st born, hardship, neither one able to cope without the other’s help, pregnancy, Sofia turning into an actual ok person, & China.

And with all of that J. Kenner still manages to CONSTANTLY remind you of each & every reason why characters in the book are important & how & why & their pasts. I understand & thank you for the recap but oh my god I get it. Same goes for the need to cut & thank you for the mental visuals of what it felt like for the character of said character did it & her struggles. But it’s very repetitive in that way...
