The concluding volume of this comes out while I'm in the middle of the ocean, with no internet. So I'm BIG MAD about that, because I want to know! I NEED to know! I cannot imagine the torment of readers who read this right when it came out, and have been waiting a whole YEAR for the conclusion.
I went into this expecting a murder-house, given the cover, but what we have here is the absolute opposite: no one inside can die, but EVERYONE outside already has. The house's residents are all friends of one particular man, from across his lifetime, who were invited VERY INSISTENTLY to this retreat. And now, they're the last of the species. But why? And, terrifyingly, for how long?
Each person has a "nickname," which is basically their real-world job, and each name has a little sigil to go with. It seems somewhat innocuous, until the sigils are found on unnerving sculptures across the island. A way to an explanation? A way to escape? Or just the game of a capricious god?
I better get book 2 in from the library QUICK, because I'm almost as invested in the answers as the housemates!
