The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West

1.0

I'd unread it if I could do such thing. This book was traumatizing, it's disturbing on so many levels- if this was Mr. West's intention, well, good job, cause this book's a big nope for me. It's a violent and raw portrait of L.A. and its inhabitants, all consumed by their hunger for fame and success, money and... power? Sort of. But not in a good way. Like, that's too alienating and it was NOT a safe read for someone struggling with anxiety.
As for the content, I'll add a MAJOR TW cause in this book you'll find:

Racism? Check. Rape? Check. Graphic content? Check. Violence (verbal, too)? Check. No amount of trigger warnings would be enough to describe this book, I swear.

So yeah, if that's your thing, kudos for you, I guess. You do you, man. But it's still a BIG NOPE for me, sorry not sorry.
