The Bone Way by Holly J. Underhill

3.0

The premise of this book is SO GOOD, but I definitely found the execution lacking. The writing was clunky and the FMC's choices were somewhat questionable. I enjoyed the quick pace until about the 40% mark, and then it slowed down and I just wasn't compelled by the storyline and skimmed the rest. Teagan and Cress's reunion especially was supremely lackluster, which further put me off, and the worldbuilding was scattered at best.

The cover, title, and idea of The Bone Way? Phenomenal. The book itself? Meh.

I think a big downfall here was in trying to fit a big story into a small book. With a high-stakes plot, you want to feel connected to the characters and their motivations, but a novella doesn't give enough time to give it the dynamics it needs.
