i ADORED this book. i wasn't expecting to like it as much as i did (especially because marius is in it, but he isn't much really).
this is a side story to the vampire chronicles but in my opinion, if you wanna read it, do it after 'memnoch the devil' and before 'the vampire armand', because it was published in between them and ties to both books timeline wise.
this book is the story of the vampire pandora. she writes her life story to david talbot in the present (1998) from when she was born until she was turned. she is the daughter of a very important roman senator, so she has the privileges of that, but she runs into tragedies because of how volatile the politics of the roman empire were in the 1st century.
i am so happy to have come out of another book from the vampire chronicles LOVING two more characters: pandora and flavius. pandora is so funny and strong and though she might be more lowkey in present day because of her age, i loved to see that young and free side of her and i hope to see her loving herself once again in future books. also i am IN LOVE with flavius, he is EVERYTHING and i need to keep reading because i need more of him (i only hope anne rice didn't ruin him in the next books lmao).
beware this book has issues (common of anne rice) of racism, orientalism, slavery, etc.
