And the Trees Crept In
by Dawn Kurtagich
This made me think of a YA House of Leaves. The way Kurtagich plays with the typography. The idea of the house or the area around the house physically changing. The general creepy atmosphere.
That’s as far as the comparison goes, however. I thought it began strong, got very slow and repetitive in the middle, and ended suitably. It has a lot of flaws but I appreciate that Kurtagich took a chance, playing with her POVs and storytelling devices. It’s a weird book, and like House of Leaves, I imagine it will be divisive.
