You know how you say someone is so hot you can’t even directly look at them? Well I’ve just found a new level of hot. Lucian freaking Rollins is so hot I couldn’t even read about him without closing my iPad every so often to gather myself. And that’s not even the hottest thing about him. Apart from being hot as Hades (or well, Lucifer), the man wears a suit like he was born in one, reading glasses (it’s a thing shh), secretly pines over his girl, reads the books she reads, protects her from near and far, and basically burns worlds and ruins lives for her. And the grumpiest, most overbearing Suit daddy, who’s equal parts Ron Swanson, Roy Kent, Lucifer, and whole damn meal, is a secret softie. 🥹 I, and I cannot stress this enough, LOVE HIM MILORD.

What does it feel like to be God’s favorite, Sloane? Speaking of Sloane, she’s feisty and sassy and capable of going toe to toe with Lucian all while being super librarian. It’s no joke being the sunshine to Sir Grumps-a-lot. They bicker and fight and loathe each other, but it’s only coz they care for the other okay! Now is that the healthiest way to go about things? No, but my man is just a sad broken boi with serious daddy issues and he’s working on them alright! Give him a break. But that connection! It burns so fiery and bright it’s straight from the depths of h3ll, and gods these two are fire. Get you out of my system h8 seggs and jealousy and dirty talk? Yes please. And no, that’s not all it is. The man would k!ll and d!e for her and so would she they’re just really pig headed about it.

I love them endlessly, but where this book, and series shines the brightest is in the group scenes. Not that kind, you dirty minds. The found family (and real family) in this series is truly one of the greatest ever. Each character is so alive they pop off the page, and all the banter and inside jokes and every interaction between them is pure joy to witness. I’m not a huge small town romance reader but this small town and its people are my Roman Empire. The kind of people you want to surround yourself with like a warm hug or a comfort blanket. It feels so real and touchable it could be my town, but still so magical you want to live there. Everyone from Knox and Naomi and Lina and Nash to the parents, the pets, the kids, the friends (Stef and Jeremiah!!) are amazing. The ending and the epilogues all so perfect it felt like a present the author made and gift wrapped just for the reader. I reserve Lucy books to read at specific points in my life, and this is why. Few authors can make me both sob and laugh with tears in my eyes in a matter of pages.

It’s totally normal to want to teleport yourself into the pages of a book so you can live their life right? You know what, I’m officially begging Ms Lucy to write the script to my life from now on please and thanks. I’m a little heartbroken that the series has ended but it’s left my heart full to bursting it would just be greedy to ask for more. So I’m glad we have the tv show to look forward to.
