The Two Princesses Of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
4.0

What a good reread! Since I’ve already read 3 Gail Carson Levine books in a row this year, I figured I might as well add this book to the list. I’ve been thinking about rereading it for a while, and now was the perfect time!

This story was just as sweet and emotion-packed as I remember. The close bond between Addie and her sister Meryl was so sweet. The whole premise of the story is so heartbreaking, but it’s also so full of love. It had a very well put-together plot and world, as well as excellent character development. I also enjoyed the subtle and sweet side-plot romance. Gail Carson Levine is just so great at writing books like this one- transportive and fairytale-like, with so much heart.

I remember the ending really upsetting me when I read it the first time, but this time it didn’t bother me as much. Maybe it was because I knew it was coming, but I did feel like it made sense to the story and added emotional depth. I feel like it’s a strength of a book to leave you both happy and sad at the same time. Granted, on this reread, I wasn’t too emotionally affected by the ending in general, but I still appreciated what the story was trying to do.

Overall, I’m glad I reread this book, and it was as good as it was the first time. 4 stars.
