kartiknarayanan 's review for:
Livia Lone
by Barry Eisler
What. A. Book.
Livia Lone stunned me with its story. It is a brutal tale of a girl, Livia, who is sold along with her younger sister, by her parents to a sex ring and then a child abuser. She grows up, overcomes all adversities and exacts justice on predators who abuse other girls and women like her.
This book is disturbing, make no mistake. There were portions (where Livia realises that her parents have sold her, the multiple abusing scenes) where I had to put it down to take a breather. But, this book feels authentic and kudos to Barry Eisler for not shying away from this topic.
I loved the story. Even though it is a bit straightforward and you can predict what is going to happen, Barry Eisler has somehow made this magical. Livia's rise from the worst of circumstances is heartwarming to watch and you end up really caring for her and rooting for her.
She is now my new favourite heroine and probably even trumps John Rain as my favorite Eisler character.
