I have never read a romance before that focused on an established couple. One that got together well before the start of the book and the story focuses on them building romance in trust back up in a pre-existing relationship. And I LOVED it! I don't know if this counts as a trope, but it may be a new favorite if it is. I'm going to need recommendations for all the romance books like this one.
By focusing on an existing couple, Chloe Liese was able to really focus on trust, yearning, and love. There were so many layers to the book and the relationship between Aidan and Freya. I have never read a romance before where I rooted for a couple so much. I felt the love, but also the hurt that both characters were experiencing. One of the most realistic interpretations of love, romance, and marriage that I've seen.
Also the hottest Bergman Brothers book so far. Aidan was so whipped for Freya and I love that in MMC. Trust is so sexy and you can't tell me otherwise.
I will say that I am in the minority and I really love the secret baby trope and a pregnancy sub-plot. That is fully where I thought this book was heading. It makes sense for the book to end with a pregnancy... and then it doesn't? There is such an emphasis on them making their own family and building on what that means to both of them and then it doesn't happen at the end of this book. I really wanted to see Freya tell Aidan they were going to have a baby. That would have done so much for my mental health. I understand why it didn't though and why Chloe Liese chose to end the book the way she did. She wanted to show that you don't necessarily have to have a baby to have a family. She also wanted to show that just because you want a baby doesn't always mean you're ready for one. I really wish it had happened, but it almost was better because it didn't. But with that said, they better have a baby before this series is over...
