Zazie in the Metro by Raymond Queneau

I’m not sure how this ended up on my to-read list - probably from a list of extra reading from a uni subject years ago, or something like that. On finally getting around to reading it, I found it a bit hard to get on with. It’s obviously clever and witty, and the translation is extraordinarily impressive, but for the most part I found it alienating in a way that  reminded me more of A Confederacy of Dunces (which I thoroughly disliked) than anything else.

On the other hand, I found the second half more entertaining than the first, so maybe it just took me a while to get on a wavelength closer to the right one.
