From the moment I laid eyes on this cover, I knew I had to read this book. I just knew I would love it! I know that there are alot of mixed reviews on it but I think it's because people expect a fantasy when this story is more historical fiction with a touch of magic. I loved every single thing about it, I loved the setting and the characters, the fact that it centers around journalists during a war. I love that we experience the war from afar but we still get scenes that make it a reality, like the bombing and the close encounters with the enemy's forces.
What I loved the most about this book was that I actually ended up listening to the audio and the narrator was the perfect touch to tie this entire book together. I loved her accent, I loved the way she conveyed the story and it all just felt so real. And then we get the magical typewriters that connect Roman and Iris and that was just magical! I felt so sorry for Iris in the beginning, she has to go through so much but she's such a strong character. As for Roman, I am absolutely obsessed with him. He is the sweetest, most amazing MMC I have read in a long time and really, he just made my heart melt.
I know we don't get much on the gods in this book, other than stories and myths passed down for generations. We never really find out why they are at war, I am excited to delve into more of the gods characters and hopefully history in book 2! As for the ending, it absolutely tore my heart out! All the weird little things that happened throughout the book finally made sense. I can't wait for Iris and Roman to find their way back to each other!
