I officially rate the original trilogy 5 stars!
What a ride this series has been the last 3 days! Its the fact that the first book sat on my shelf for almost 3 years and it took me until this year to finally pick up the first book....only because my friend gifted me the original trilogy and novellas and these books also fit the prompts for the onceuponareadathon and my personal goal of reading an older YA series in the month of November for Knock it out November!
I 100% loved these characters and I was a little hesitant going in because I'm not a fan of the show the Bachelor but for some reason this series worked for me and I am so glad that I have read it as an adult in my 30's and not my early 20's because I know for a fact I would have been team Aspen.
Aspen turned out to be a good guy in the end and he did get this own happy ending with Lucy so thats awesome but I know my teenage self would have loved the whole childhood friend / forbidden romance type of vibe they were giving off. But I'm very happy this book didn't end like that!
Maxon oh Maxon why can't you be real! lol I just love him as a character yes he was a prince but he was so much more. He was complex and guarded as well as loving and caring towards each girl in the competition. His mother was also fabulous! His father was an ass and I hated him.
I knew there was going to be some sort of fight with the rebel groups at the end but I didn't think it was going to go down like it did! Just when I was starting to like Celeste too...The northern rebels have so much promise and high hopes for the country and I believe that Maxon and America are the perfect people to lead that change from the top!
America is pretty impulsive but she's not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and she fights for who she loves (even if its 2 guys at the same time). I think she will make an awesome princess if she calms down a little bit and thinks before she acts.
I am excited to read the Novellas and continue with the later books in the series the rest of November! I will be going back to work after having Covid so I probably won't be reading them in a day lol Who knows tho maybe?!
