This is an entertaining insight into the world behind the scenes from Ottens' time at various public libraries in the US. It shows that all is not reading and roses (devastated) but instead involves the mundane and the insane as the public do strange, wonderful, and disturbing things to the books and the libraries themselves. Ottens also talks about his time training at various levels, the various colleagues he worked with along the way, and how inexperienced he still feels despite all of that. Included within the pages are inputs from the Librarian Tales social media pages and from interview that Ottens did with some more experienced librarians that he admires.
