Hannah Mary Tabbs and the Disembodied Torso: A Tale of Race, Sex, and Violence in America by Kali Nicole Gross

5.0

Great read

I really appreciated Gross's willingness to illuminate the history of Hannah Mary Tabbs, a woman who lived by a different set of values and whose actions aren't part of an accepted useable past. Many historians shy away from such recovery work but Gross didn't and our understandings of the histories of black Philadelphia and black women in the Gilded Age are richer for it.
