Mad About the Boy
by Helen Fielding
After I began reading this, I did think to myself how I hadn't read the first two, only seen the films. In any case, it didn't really matter. This isn't my usual read; i'm not into chick lit as it's all very samey samey, and this pretty much fits the same criteria. It was fairly predictable, with the odd moment that amused me, although certainly not laugh out loud. Despite loving 'film' Bridget, I did find myself getting a bit irritated by 'book' Bridget and her failure to organise herself, and getting herself into all sorts of ridiculous situations, despite not having to work, having a nanny and no money issues. It wasn't very believable (although I know it's not meant to be). Same misbelief for the whole, Bridget being 51 but having tiny kids thing.I guess it worked with the storyline but it was something I couldn't forget as I was reading. Saying all that, I really enjoyed the whole, predictable happy ending, and I had an 'ahhh' moment on the last page. A good read but certainly isn't going to change my world!
