The Hero of Ages
by Brandon Sanderson
i have finished the mistborn series and my first brandon sanderson series! news for the people that care!
magic system goes crazy. it’s aspirational honestly. i just remember that someone crafted this all in their head (probably with research ofc but still!) and created a whole universe. writing is truly an art. one of the most expansive and well crafted magic systems and magic related worlds that ive seen in a while. what’s also great about it is how accessible it is. by that i mean, it doesn’t overload you with a ton of world building mumbo jumbo or vocabulary. you kinda pick it up as you go which can be hard at first, but it really makes for a better more rewarding reading experience (especially when it all comes together in the end).
i will say… i don’t know how i feel about certain character story arcs. vin in particular. i don’t quite know how to phrase my potential issues with it yet, it’s not per say her changes visibility throughout the books, but also it is. maybe it’s the slight disappearance of agency i felt occur throughout the three books in service of other characters. i think. BUT this book is nearly twenty years old, so i think that is a a huge factor for women in fantasy.
but overall it’s a really well done fantasy series. stormlight archives next, right? 😀
