If I have one piece of advice for my fellow reader babes in the upcoming new year, I would say you should not sleep on this duology. Rebecca Ross’s initial idea for this book was jotted down as follows: “A girl who writes letters to her missing brother, and the boy who reads them.” Iris and Roman are rivals competing for a coveted columnist promotion at the Oath Gazette. The two begin to correspond through letters written on their typewriters that, unbeknownst to them, are linked by magic. What’s more, Iris has no idea who is on the receiving end of her letters. If she knew it was Roman reading her deepest secrets, oh my…

Let me tell you, I was really gearing up for a nasty appearance of the miscommunication trope here, but Ross kept it classy, my friends. Her portrayal of grief as Iris lost her mother to alcoholism was also stunning. She really has a way with words and I am eager to read her other series. I should have waited to start this book closer to January’s BOTM drop; I need the sequel NOW! I wouldn’t compare this to Fourth Wing as I have been seeing on Bookstagram, but man, I loved it!
