I don't think I've ever read such a bleak romance, but this was a really great slow burn. The relationship was forged based on shared circumstances and mutual appreciation and respect. I really admire how the author managed to change our expectations from a basically comatose guy into this hyper efficient soldier. Simon is the best kind of strong-but-silent type. Meanwhile, Gemma was a well done empathetic person. I loved how there was no forced mating trope here either, which is almost always a cop out to skip the steps of actually developing a relationship.
