One thing I realized in the last book was how the characters are always fine. Whatever is thrown at them, no matter how dangerous or deadly, they are always fine. And this time wasn't any different... until it was. And I still need to recover from it. I don't know if I'm ready to keep reading if the characters aren't fine. I need them to be fine. That's the best part of these books! The comfort of knowing that everything will work out fine. If you take that away from me... then... the characters can DIE! 😱

The addiction of the Vice-Chancellor was terrifying. I knew he was coming. I knew he was trouble. But I had no idea how much trouble he would be. For sure he was a character made to destabilize everything and put everyone's lives at risk.

While I complain I want all the characters to be safe, at the same, I wish to be crushed. I want to open this book and be hit by a roller coaster of emotions. Maybe that would make these books more memorable. It's still nice to have a place where I can enjoy a post-apocalyptic story with the comfort of knowing everything works out fine, but I also want to be on the edge of my seat, to fear the next chapter, to be surprised.

The 100 series continues to have a special place in my heart even if these books aren't the best of the best. I care about how the story makes me feel even if it doesn't stick to my mind for long.
