My Very '90s Romance
by Jenny Colgan
This was a fun, lighthearted read that made me laugh out loud numerous times. Though there are a few problematic plot points that don't translate well across time, they are more minor moments and not broad sweeping issues.
Holly is struggling to find her place in life, yet is okay with who she is. She accepts responsibility for why her life is the way it is while half-heartedly striving to change it. She's humorous and often gets herself into awkward situations. Her flatmates are equally hilarious, and navigating similar straits.
This book was a fun diversion and felt a bit like stepping back in time. Pagers! Answering machines! Few cell phones! It was an enjoyable read, but lacks the re-read-ability her other novels typically have. Nevertheless, it's a fun book with lower stakes for the most part and quite a few laughs.
