I have to remind myself that this book was written about 30 years ago, and just because the book has an updated cover, it doesn't mean the story has been updated with the times.

This is the first time I became uncomfortable finishing a story. I wasn't a big fan of the plot (two attackers/murderers, attacking/S.A. multiple women) as there were times when the author didn't need to go into detail about certain things. In response, there were points of the story that explained the reasoning behind the main plot, which made sense of why action A led to action B happening.

I always love when authors ensure continuity within their series, and given that people mentioned, you can pick up an Alex Cross book and read it in any order, I would still read it for character development. And I always enjoy a plot twist, especially that there were TWO plot twists. One hole I did find is why Kate described Casanova with "blue eyes" but fail to mention it to Alex, unless the state she was in, she was already doubting her memory.

I'm surprised how quickly I finished this book (similar to Along With a Spider), and I do understand other readers saying how bad the writing is (it's decent enough to get to the point, but I would focus more on the plot, rather than the descriptions), and I am hopeful that Patterson's writing matures as the series continues (because I have about 30+ books to get through to be caught up to current-day).

Also loved how the book sets up for a future book, mentioning the first book's murderer escaped from prison (and we don't get to read about it until two books later).
