Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
4.25
The writing is as always spectacular and very V.E Schwab. It's poetic, but in the best way possible. I don't know how she was able to encapsulate the notion of sapphic in her writing, but I could feel it in every sentence that I read. That being said, I love how unapologetically lesbian this book is and how female centered is the narrative itself.
My only minor criticism is that I wasn't invested in Alice as a character at all. I get why the chapters were there, and how they tied up, but her storyline and flashbacks barely did anything for me. Compared to Lottie and Sabine her chapters felt dull and a bit flat.
I understand why some people were disappointed, but I think if you are familiar with Victoria's other books, this will be up your alley. Or if you like heavily character driven novels.
